I lifted my head off my tray, sputtering. I could
feel warm goop sticking to my cheeks, my forehead,
my nose, and my hair.
How did that happen? 1 wondered.
Max and Darcy burst out laughing. Everybody
around us started laughing too.
My face was covered with food. I wiped a blob of
mashed potatoes from my eyes. Ketchup oozed
down my shirt like blood.
"That was the funniest thing I've ever seen!"
Darcy cried, gasping with laughter. "Becky—you
should see your face!"
Pete! 1 thought furiously. He shoved my face in my
food to keep me from warning them! And they think
it's funny!
"Listen to me!" I shrieked. "It's not funny!"
